Aerodynamic Flow-Cover Design

The newly developed Flow-Cover surrounds the lower pulley with a smooth outer surface while incorporating an integrated inner guide plate to improve chain control.

By refining airflow around one of the most turbulent areas of the drivetrain, the Jetstream Pro reduces aerodynamic drag by approximately 10–15% compared with TRIPEAK’s previous AOPW design.

The result is an oversized pulley system designed not only around mechanical efficiency, but around the aerodynamic demands of modern high-performance road bikes.

Why an 18T Pulley?

Most standard rear derailleurs use pulley wheels ranging from approximately 11T to 14T, forcing the chain to articulate through a relatively tight angle as it passes through the derailleur.

The Jetstream Pro increases the lower pulley size to 18 teeth, allowing the chain to follow a shallower path with reduced articulation. Less chain deflection can mean lower mechanical resistance, smoother chain movement and more efficient power transfer.

The larger pulley also allows the use of a larger bearing which rotates more slowly for a given chain speed, helping reduce bearing loads while contributing to smooth, consistent performance over extended use.

Why Composite Pulleys?

Rather than pressing bearings into a traditional aluminium pulley, TRIPEAK uses an injection-moulded composite pulley construction that fully encapsulates the bearing.

This creates an exceptionally precise interface between the pulley body and bearing while increasing wear resistance and reducing drivetrain noise.

The composite material is also kinder to the chain than a machined aluminium pulley, helping reduce wear at the chain-to-pulley interface.

Combined with TRIPEAK’s Narrow-Wide tooth profile, the result is quieter operation, improved chain retention and smooth performance across a wide range of riding conditions.

Nano-Coated Ceramic Bearings

The Jetstream Pro uses TRIPEAK’s premium NC Nano-Coated Ceramic Bearings, featuring precision G3-grade ceramic balls, nano-coated bearing races and Supra LV low-viscosity lubricant.

The nano coating is designed to reduce friction between the bearing surfaces while improving wear resistance, while the Zero Contact Seal helps protect against contamination without introducing unnecessary seal drag.

Together, these technologies deliver exceptionally smooth rotation, long service life and consistent real-world performance.

The TRIPEAK Jetstream Pro AOPW-AERO is designed for selected Shimano and SRAM 12-speed road rear derailleurs.

Important Shimano Dura-Ace RD-R9250 Compatibility Notice

TRIPEAK has identified two different original derailleur cage designs currently in circulation for the Shimano Dura-Ace RD-R9250 rear derailleur.

Crucially, both versions carry the same Shimano RD-R9250 model number, so compatibility cannot be confirmed from the derailleur model number alone.

The two versions can instead be distinguished by the detailed shape and dimensions of the chain stopper on the original derailleur cage.

RD-R9250 Type A – Compatible with 12T / 18T

The more commonly available Type A cage features the smaller chain-stopper profile, measuring approximately 7.4mm as shown in TRIPEAK’s compatibility illustration.

Type A is compatible with the 12T / 18T Jetstream Pro AOPW-AERO/EVO.

Type A is compatible with:

• 12T / 16T AOPW-AERO / EVO
• AOPW – Dura-Ace – 12-speed

RD-R9250 Type B – NOT Compatible with 12T / 18T

The Type B RD-R9250 uses a slightly different chain-stopper design, measuring approximately 8.4mm as shown in TRIPEAK’s compatibility illustration.

When the 12T / 18T AOPW-AERO/EVO is installed on this version, the original derailleur chain stopper may interfere with the 18T lower pulley.

For this reason, the 12T / 18T AOPW-AERO/EVO should not be used with a Type B RD-R9250 cage.

Type B is compatible with:

• 12T / 16T AOPW-AERO / EVO
• AOPW – Dura-Ace – 12-speed

Please Check Your RD-R9250 Before Ordering

If you have a Shimano Dura-Ace RD-R9250 rear derailleur, please refer to the TRIPEAK compatibility image included in the product image gallery before ordering.

The illustration shows the physical difference between the Type A and Type B cages and where to check the chain-stopper profile.

Because both versions are labelled RD-R9250, checking the model number alone is not sufficient to determine compatibility with the 12T / 18T system.

If you are unsure which version you have, please contact us before ordering and send us a clear photograph of your original rear derailleur cage. We will be happy to help identify the correct version and confirm compatibility.

Installation

TRIPEAK’s patented asymmetric cage design has been developed to integrate with the architecture of the compatible original rear derailleur.

Correct compatibility should always be confirmed before installation, particularly with Shimano Dura-Ace RD-R9250 due to the two different original cage designs currently in circulation.

We recommend following TRIPEAK’s installation instructions and checking derailleur operation, pulley clearance and drivetrain adjustment carefully following installation.
